Happy Birthday, America! I’ve chosen today to go over these upcoming Nerf Rival blasters for two reasons. One, some of the information has just become available very recently. Two, it’s the night before the Fourth of July, which is Independence Day here in the United States. The Nerf Rival blasters, with their Red, White (lettering), and Blue color schemes align perfectly with the colors of the US flag and therefore the spirit of the 4th of July holiday. But outside of that, it’s business as usual. Let’s start off by taking a look at the full product listing of Nerf Rival blasters at the ToysRUs.com website.:

Wow, that looks impressive. As you can see, the Nerf Rival blasters line includes 2 new blasters, the Apollo and Zeus. The Apollo is a springer powered blaster, while the Zeus is powered by Godly thunder (flywheels) and lightning bolts (aka electricity). There will be two very cool, paintball-esque face masks. They will be available in red or blue, just like the blasters themselves. There will be 12-round magazines, which will work with either blaster. There are also ammo refill packs, one in 25 and the other in 50-rounds of ammunition. Speaking of the ammo, I’m sure you already know that the Nerf Rival blasters will be using a completely different type of ammo. Instead of darts, they will be using spherical foam ammo. Very cool stuff, no?

Nerf Rival Blasters Revelations

Let’s go over the Nerf Rival blasters themselves. Nerf Rival blasters are a completely new product line for Nerf. They bear very little in common with their N-Strike brethren. They are said to be more powerful, and thanks to the new ammo type, much more accurate. They’re also marketed to a much older crowd (13+) than the typical audience for the more traditional Nerf blasters (8+). So let’s check them out!

Nerf Rival Apollo XV-700 Blaster

First up, we’ve got the Apollo. This is your standard spring powered affair. Load it up, cock it back, and then shoot. But what’s really specially about this blaster is the way it is loaded. Check it out, the Nerf Rival Apollo loads its magazine right in the handle like an actual firearm. Too cool for words! I love that so much. It comes with a 7-round Magazine, although you can purchase a 12-round mag that will fit in the Apollo or the Zeus flawlessly. Right above the trigger, on either side, is the ambidextrous mag release button.

Nerf Rival Zeus MXV-1200 Blaster

Next we move on to the Godly Zeus blaster. This one is available in red or blue, your choice. The Zeus is a flywheel blaster and thusly requires 6 C sized batteries which are loaded from the back of the stock. That also means that no prime is required, just point and shoot. As long as you’re holding down that little acceleration trigger on the handle, you’re golden. And you’ll be shooting those high-velocity, high-accuracy Rival rounds from a 12-round Magazine this time. The mag loads into the blaster from either side and also features an ambidextrous mag release button. On the Zeus Rival blasters you’ll find a longer tactical rail, and a set of very cool looking flip-up sights. Very nice.

Nerf Rival Blasters Ammunition Rounds

While I was never really interested in those Nerf Vortex foam disc blasters, the Nerf Rival blasters hold great interest for me. A big reason is the new ammo type they use. These little mini-golf ball looking ammo rounds are very intriguing. We know they aren’t hard like golf balls, but they resemble them. From my observations, they will be a lot easier and quicker to load these into a magazine than the Nerf darts ever were. Speaking of the magazines, just look at them. They look very nice. For one, they’re clear like the Nerf Rapidstrike clips. But thanks to the small nature of the Nerf Rival blasters ammo, the mag is a lot smaller and, as it would appear, easier to carry. But will you have to carry these mags? You see the two little black clips in the picture up above? Those are tactical rail mount magazine holders. That’s right, that ammo kit comes with rail mounts that allow you to mount spare mags right there on the blaster. Awesome.

Nerf Rival Blasters Release

So, there you have it. I do believe these blasters are set to release on August 1st, 2015. Breaking down the name, if I had to guess, I’d say the XV-700 stands for “extreme velocity 7 rounds.” The MXV-1200 stands for “motorized, extreme velocity with 12 rounds.” Or something like that. These new Nerf Rival blasters are bringing a lot of new ideas to fruition and it is very exciting. I am eagerly awaiting these blasters release date. What about you, Nerf Nation?
