Orange Mod Works Unleashed Solid Final Stage Mod Kit

That’s right, Nerf Nation! Prepare to go from zero to hero after we drop in this mod kit. Yes, I said “drop-in.” In case you didn’t know, Orange Mod Works (OMW) specializes in easy, all-in-one, drop-in mod kits. These are following the K.I.S.S. method of doing things, and it works so well. I myself am a mostly inexperienced Nerf modder. Sure, I’ve done simple mods on my blasters before, but by no means am I a seasoned modder. I don’t even have half the tools necessary to complete most of the mods that I’ve seen on YouTube. Luckily, all you need for this mod is a single screwdriver…

Unboxing the OMW Nerf Strongarm Mod Kit.

When you get your hands on the Nerf Strongarm mod kit, you might be amazed at how well packaged it is. Starting with the outside of the box itself, you can tell you’re going to be dealing with premium, high quality parts. Opening the box reveals another surprise. The pieces of the OMW Nerf Strongarm mod kit are fitted within custom cutouts in a layer of foam. It reminds me of the real steel gun carrying cases. Packaged like this, I can’t ever see any of the contents of the box ever being damaged. Not one bit. The Nerf Strongarm mod kit box includes a new beefy 7+ kilogram spring, a replacement catch mechanism, a new plunger rod, and an all metal OMW Trigger. There’s also a little baggie with some silicone grease, replacement catch and trigger springs, an O-ring for your plunger rod, and a couple of Orange Mod Works stickers to adorn your blaster with. All in all, the packaging was very professional, inside and out.

Nerf Strongarm Mod Kit Installation.

Installing the Orange Mod Works Unleashed Solid Mod Kit is easier than you might think, as OMW has totally streamlined the process. Since you’re only really replacing 3 main parts, it’s a cinch. Simply unscrew all of the screws from your blaster and remove the top half of the blaster shell. Locate and identify the trigger. ( If you can’t find the trigger, just give up now. You probably shouldn’t even be playing with any type of a Nerf gun, let alone modding it.)

Unscrew the single screw holding the trigger in place and remove the entire trigger mechanism completely. There will be a spring attached to the trigger. You can go ahead and remove that spring right along with the trigger.

Next, you’re going to want to remove the catch mechanism. This is the piece at the very rear of the blaster that the tip of the trigger was resting on. Remove that piece and its accompanying spring as well.

Finally it’s time to remove the plunger rod. You should see the end of the plunger rod sticking out from the larger tube right behind the cylinder. Lift the plunger tube slightly and gently pull the entire plunger rod out. It should have a larger spring around it. You can set the entire piece off to the side.

Now the fun begins. It’s time to install the new and improved OMW kit pieces! Take the black plunger rod from the OMW box and grab the large spring as well. Put the spring over the non-circular end of the plunger rod. You’ll want to tilt the spring at an angle and then screw the spring on. If you did it correctly, the spring will begin to twist its way down the plunger rod. Make sure the end of the spring clears the end of the plunger rod and goes on all the way.

Next, flip the plunger rod to the other end. Grab the black o-ring from the bag and slip it onto the middle of the circular end of the plunger rod. Open the provided silicone grease and apply a small amount all around where you just put on the o-ring. Optionally, you can put a bit more directly inside of the plunger tube.

Insert the rod back into the tube, making sure you insert the circular plunger “head” first. You’ll also want to make sure that the opposite end of the plunger rod (the end with the “hook”) has the hook part facing down towards the trigger.

Next, grab the catch mech and fit the smaller of the OMW springs into the back of it. Place the catch, spring side facing down, back into the place where you removed the original catch. Holding it down, slide it up and down a little bit to make sure it’s seated properly.

Now grab that heavy metal trigger and put it in its place. Make sure you sit the trigger right on top of the screw post. The screw post should stick through the hole in the trigger piece. Ensure that the far tip of the trigger mech is resting right on top of the catch mechanism that we just installed. Don’t forget to add the bigger of the two Orange Mod Works springs onto the little nub on the trigger. Screw the trigger in with the single screw that you removed earlier.

That’s it! You’re pretty much done. This is how it all should look right now.:

Make sure everything is where it is supposed to be and then lay the other half of the blaster shell back on top and screw everything back together.

Nerf Strongarm Mod Performance.

Now it’s time to test this monstrosity out. If this is your first mod, you’ll also be testing to make sure that it works at all. Hopefully you didn’t muck it up, because the new performance is quite nice. (If you did mess up somewhere, don’t worry. You shouldn’t have been able to break anything. So just start over and look over this guide again.) Load your blaster up with darts and prepare to fire your Strong(er)arm. As soon as you go to pull the pistol slide back, you can tell things are different. Priming the Strongarm is now just a little bit tougher thanks to the new spring. You can feel the heaviness of the slide when you pull it back. It feels good. When you line up your target and squeeze that metal trigger, that feels good too. There is a loud *thalunk!* as you fire off a dart. The dart flies out of the chamber faster and more forceful than ever. You can really tell the difference by the loud sound the dart makes as it crashes into its target. The whole experience is very satisfying. The performance level of this Strongarm has seen very respectable gains. There has been no loss of accuracy or rate of fire, but I’ve seen a big increase in velocity and range. It really puts the stock Strongarm to shame as it easily outclasses it in every category.

Conclusions.

This Orange Mod Works Nerf Strongarm mod kit is really awesome! It is easy to install, even for beginners. The thing I really like about this OMW mod kit is that it upgrades your spring just enough to reach the perfect balance between speed and power. It also comes in at a very affordable price too.
