Who is Nerf for, anyway? All Nerf toys have a suggested suitable age range. It says it right there on the box: “Ages 8+.” But what does that really mean? It means you should at least be 8 years old. But what’s the cutoff on the other end? Is it 10? 20? 30? To infinity and beyond? What’s the magic number? Who decides when you’re too old to use something that you are still having fun with? You do, that’s who. You have to grow old, sure, but you never ever have to grow up. Write that down.
“Growing old is unavoidable, but never growing up is possible. I believe you can retain certain things from your childhood if you protect them – certain traits, certain places where you don’t let the world go.” – Johnny Depp.
Nerf Toys R Us Kid.
Now I don’t actually shop at Toys R Us anymore, especially since they shut my local store down. Besides, why would I even think about shopping at any brick and mortar store when there’s the internet? I get all my Nerf toys at Amazon.com. However, I do still like to live by the old Toys R Us company slogan. “I don’t wanna grow up, I’m a Toys R Us kid.” So, in the end, I think that the “ages 8 and up” thing does mean anyone can play with it. It’s like video games. E for everyone. Except in this case, it’s nErf for Everyone. So basically what I’m saying is not to be discouraged for liking what you like. It doesn’t matter how old you are or how life has changed, keeping that playful side alive is what it’s all about. Having fun, that’s what really matters. The moment you stop having fun is the moment you are truly old. So no, you don’t have to “grow up.” You don’t have to put away all of your childish things. As long as you do what has to be done and take care of all of your responsibilities, the rest is up to you. It’s play time. Don’t be embarrassed, just be yourself. If you like to play with Nerf toys, play with Nerf toys. So grab that Stryfe, pick up that Rapidstrike, quoth that Rayven, let’s mod that Longshot. Together. Let’s have a Nerf War!
But don’t just take it from me. Here’s famous YouTuber and Nerf modder LordDraconical with his vision on what Nerf is and what kinds of people the community is made up of.:
“It isn’t that Nerf is for kids… It’s that it’s okay for you to be a kid.” – Drac
