Pssst! Hey, you! Yes, YOU!
If you read my last article about the Game Face Trion, then I bet I already know exactly what you’re thinking.
Ok, but seriously, I know exactly what you’re thinking: That was a great review, Blee. It was possibly the best Nerf blaster review ever made, BUT… why didn’t you run her over the Chrono, Blee? Why didn’t you test out those Game Face Pro Darts? And the answer is simple. I couldn’t find it, alright? Yeah, I kinda lost my old chronograph. So, I bought another one!
This is the Ballistic Precision G2 Chronograph from Caldwell. I really wanted something a little different this time, so I thought I’d flip things upside down a little bit. Get it? Because the G2 Chronograph is the only chronograph that has the sensors facing downwards? Get it? No? Okay…
Anyway, I also lost the darts. Yup. All of those shiny new Game Face Pro Darts? Gone. Well, most of them anyway. If you saw my “firing test” portion of the video review of the Game Face Trion, well, then you know things got a little out of hand. So, I bought new darts, too! 100 new Game Face Pro Darts in my hand.
Now if you guys missed my original article or you just don’t feel like reading it right now, I’ll do a quick little recap of what the Game Face Trion actually is, in 150 words or less. Let’s go!
Game Face Trion Recap
The Trion is a competition ready, high performance dart blaster made by Game Face. It’s another spring powered, pump-action, mag fed foam flinger and it shoots half-length darts only. In the box, you’ll find the blaster, muzzle device, front and rear ABS sights, a 15 dart magazine, 15 Game Face Pro Darts, a couple of spring spacers and the user manual!
This blaster is super tacti-cool and features a long picatinny rail up top and M-LOK slots on both sides of the handguard. It features an angled pump-action foregrip and an adjustable thumbhole stock. Both of these are easily replaceable with whatever M4 grip and buffer tube stock that you want.
Also, it has Slam-Fire. Also, also, the Game Face Trion is basically compatible with every short dart mag ever made. The Trion can also adjust its shooting velocity on the fly with a toolless spring retainer on the back of the buffer tube. And that’s the blaster in a nutshell! On to the firing test.
Chronograph Testing the Game Face Pro Darts
Alright guys, and welcome to the Game Face Trion chrony testing! Starting off we’ll be using the included Game Face Pro Darts and we’ll be seeing how they do. People also call these “Chevron Darts” because of the shape of the air vent hole in the head of the dart.
This first test here is without any spring spacers or anything like that. Just the Game Face Trion, straight out of the box and some fresh “Chevron” darts. Let’s see how she does!
Alrighty then! These Game Face Pro darts do not appear to be very good. The standard deviation is too high and these darts are pretty inconsistent. We would have had a 150 FPS average velocity, but that last low shot just screwed us up. These chevron darts do not appear to be very good. The standard deviation is too high and these darts are pretty inconsistent!
Game Face Pro Darts with a Spring Spacer
Starting off very nice, the Game Face Pro darts actually hit a velocity of 197 feet per second. I added 1 of the Game Face Trion’s included spring spacers. These are little plastic pieces that actually compress the spring a little further, adding a power boost to whatever blaster you put them in.
Alrighty then, so, with this one we went from about 150 feet per second all the way up to almost 180 feet per second. The average velocity here using the included Game Face Pro Darts was 179.9 feet per second. Standard deviation is still a little high at 17, but it’s pretty solid. Let’s move on to the next one!
Two Spring Spacers and Game Face Pro Darts
I’m adding a second spring spacer here. This is the FULL potential of the Game Face Trion, without modding it or adding any additional aftermarket modifications. Let’s go!
Starting off hot, we hit a velocity of 220 feet per second! That’s what I’m talking about, baby! I was really feeling those numbers, but don’t worry, the very next shot brought me plummeting back down to Earth. 124 feet per second! Hey! What happened?!
The Game Face Trion is so inconsistent with these Game Face Pro Darts, but I have a feeling that it’s just that– the darts. Yeah, I’m pretty sure these chevron darts are the whole problem. It’s not the blaster, it’s the crappy darts. So don’t buy more of these darts, guys. Don’t even use these darts in a Nerf War.
Alright, so here we’ve gained about another 20 points or so. We have an average muzzle velocity of 197 feet per second. Standard deviation is really crazy at 29, though, so that’s not good. These Game Face Pro Darts are very inconsistent. And to prove how inconsistent the darts were, I also ran some Dart Zone Max Ruby darts through the Trion.
Control Testing with Dart Zone Darts
The Ruby darts hit a little lower of an average at around 140 feet per second The Game Face Pro darts hit 148.7 FPS average velocity with a standard deviation of 15.9 during my initial testing. So while the Dart Zone Ruby darts hit a little lower of an average, the standard deviation (8.4) was much lower, making them much more consistent.
And I’ll take consistency over random bursts of power any day.
Worker Gen 3 Darts in a Katana Mag
Next, I tried the Worker Gen 3 darts in a Worker Katana Mag. And with the Worker Gen 3’s, I saw an even lower standard deviation of 6.9 (giggity) at 143.8 feet per second average velocity. So it seems the Worker Gen 3 half-length darts might be the best darts to use with the Game Face Trion as they outperform the Game Face Pro darts in almost every single category.
Everybody already uses Worker darts and magazines already anyway, so big surprise, right? Haha.
